BSN-to-DNP Program Details: Are you a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree who is searching for a doctoral-level AGNP program in Utah? If so, the University of Utah offers an amazing BSN-to-DNP program that could be the perfect fit for you!
This post-baccalaureates DNP program is available in a full-time format and designed to be completed in as few as three years or eight consecutive semesters. New cohorts are admitted in the fall semester of each year. Classes are offered in a blended combination of in-person and online formats. Some campus participation is embedded throughout the program. If you live farther than 50 miles from campus, some exceptions may be made to the number of on-campus requirements, but these exceptions are at the discretion of faculty.
The DNP curriculum provides a solid foundation in evidence-based practice, systems leadership, and quality improvement, all of which are essential to the practice of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. To earn the DNP, you must complete 82 credits. The plan of study includes courses such as Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics Across the Lifespan, Adult-Gerontology Chronic, Acute, and Critical Care I, II, & III, Advanced Evidence-Based Practice, and Professional Issues for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
The final two years of the program consist of multiple practicum courses with corresponding clinical practicums. During this time, you will rotate through various clinical sites, including ICU, Acute Pain, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and other sub-specialty rotations. In total, you will complete at least 1,000 clinical hours, 850 direct patient care hours, and 150 indirect care hours, including simulation, procedural training, and case studies.
The DNP program guarantees clinical placement sites for students who live along the Wasatch Front region of Utah. Distance-learning students are required to coordinate clinical sites and identify clinical preceptors in collaboration with program faculty. All clinical sites and preceptors are subject to approval of the College of Nursing.
BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: Admission to the BSN-to-DNP program is reserved for candidates who hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing earned at an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program. You may participate in the admissions process while completing your BSN. However, you must complete the degree before beginning the program of study. Candidates must have an active, unrestricted Utah state RN license and at least one year of direct patient care experience.
Application requirements include submission of a FutureU application, a professional resume, a Personal Goal Statement, three letters of recommendation, and transcripts from each college or university you have attended. A minimum 3.0 cumulative college GPA is required.
Post-APRN Graduate Certificate Program Details: If you are an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who is certified in one area of practice and you wish to expand your specialty to add the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification, the Post-APRN Graduate Certificate program at the University of Utah is an excellent option. The program features asynchronous and synchronous online classes but is not considered a fully distance-learning program as some campus attendance is required.
An individualized plan of study will be developed for you based on a GAP analysis of your previous graduate nursing transcripts. Because courses are offered during different semesters, it can take four to six semesters to earn the Post-APRN Graduate Certificate. Clinical practicums are arranged collaboratively with program faculty and may be completed close to your home.
Post-APRN Graduate Certificate Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP Post-APRN Graduate Certificate program, candidates must hold a previous advanced practice nursing degree and national certification in another population foci. Applications are due by December 1 for admission in the following fall semester.
Applicants must complete a College of Nursing application and a University of Utah Non-Degree Seeking Student application. Other required documents include a Statement of Interest, a current resume, three letters of professional recommendation, PDF copies of all college transcripts, and a copy of your APRN certification. Transcripts should reflect a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.
