BSN-to-DNP Program Details: If you are a registered nurse aspiring to become an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner in Kansas, you need to look no further than Wichita State University! The university offers the best post-bachelor’s Doctor of Nursing Practice AGNP program in Kansas! The program is designed to prepare you as an expert practitioner, consultant, and educator in Adult/Gerontology health.
The BSN-to-DNP Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program offers one entry point each year in the Fall semester. Most students complete the program in three and a half years on a full-time basis. While most courses are offered in an online format, some campus visits are required. On campus, you will have face-to-face interactions with faculty and peers and participate in state-of-the-art simulation opportunities designed to enhance your learning. In-person clinicals are also a required component of the program.
The study plan features a 73-credit hour curriculum that follows a set sequence. Some courses in the program include Acute Care Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pathophysiology & Management of Adult & Older Adult Acute Care Problems, Population & Social Determinants of Health, and Healthcare Informatics.
To complete the Doctor of Nursing Practice program requirements, you will participate in a minimum of 1,000 guided clinical hours. Clinicals are held in a variety of settings where you will provide care to adults and geriatric patients experiencing acute healthcare needs. Clinicals are arranged in collaboration with program faculty and supervised by faculty or approved preceptors.
BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be eligible for admission to the BSN-to-DNP AGNP program at Wichita State University, you must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a nationally accredited school. All candidates must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Kansas and have one year of clinical experience as an RN in an intensive care setting. Emergency room or other acute care experience may be considered if you lack ICU experience.
You are required to submit an application to the Graduate School by May 1st for admission to the fall semester. All candidates are expected to provide official transcripts from any college or university previously attended. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required in the following areas: all undergraduate nursing courses, any graduate-level courses taken, the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework, or the four sciences: anatomy/physiology, microbiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. Proof of completion of a graduate-level statistics course taken within the last 10 years is also required. All candidates must demonstrate computer literacy and have professional and general liability insurance before enrolling in practicum coursework.
