BSN-to-DNP Program Details: If you are a registered nurse who loves providing adult and gerontology care and you are ready to take your career to the next level, a great way to do that is by earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice and becoming an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. If you are interested in AGNP programs in Oklahoma, I recommend considering the University of Tulsa. The BSN-to-DNP program admits students in the fall of each year and takes three years to complete.

Core courses for the DNP AGNP program are delivered online. Program-specific courses are mostly face-to-face, with some hybrid courses. 76 credits are required to complete this post-baccalaureate DNP degree. Some of the classes you will take include Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nursing Practice: Diagnostic Reasoning, Organizational Leadership & Quality Improvement, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology. Extensive human patient simulations and skills laboratory experiences are combined with more than 1,000 hours of clinical practicum. Clinicals are arranged by the program faculty, ensuring you have the best learning opportunities.


BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: Prospective students for the BSN-to-DNP program must be graduates of an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and have documentation of a current, unrestricted Oklahoma RN license. Candidates are required to complete an admission application and submit two letters of recommendation and copies of all college or university transcripts. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred. Additionally, candidates must have at least one year of full-time acute care nursing experience as a registered nurse.

Certificate Program Details: If you are an advanced practice nurse and you want to expand your scope of practice to include adult-gerontology care, the AGACNP Certificate program is an excellent choice. The program is self-paced, requiring only one brief campus visit. The Post-Graduate Certificate program features an 18-credit curriculum that is delivered through an online format. In addition to distance-based coursework, you will complete 600 clinical hours. As a student in the certificate program, you may opt to complete clinicals near your home region or travel to Tulsa or Oklahoma City to complete the program’s clinical requirement.


Certificate Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the Certificate Program, candidates must have a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from a nursing program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE and have an advanced practice nurse credential from the ANCC or AACN. Applicants are required to provide documentation of an active, unencumbered APRN license, a professional resume or curriculum vitae, a two-page personal statement, and copies of current BLS and ACLS certifications.

BSN-to-DNP Program Details: Oklahoma City University is home to another excellent AGNP program in Oklahoma. The program is designed to be completed in four years. New classes are admitted each fall. It takes an average of four years to complete the program.

The BSN-to-DNP Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP program has minimal residency requirements. Coursework is delivered in various formats, including in-person, synchronously and asynchronously online, or a mixture of both. The program features a 67-credit curriculum with classes, including Research Integration for Advanced Practice Nursing, Management of Adult-Gerontological Health Problems, Advanced Pathophysiology, and Transcultural & Global Health Care. Additionally, you will complete a minimum of 1,000 clinical hours. While most clinical hours are earned through direct patient care, you will also earn indirect clinical hours through the completion of a DNP Project.


BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: Applicants who wish to enroll in the BSN-to-DNP program at Oklahoma City University must be a graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program and have a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma or a Nurse Licensure Compact State. Candidates are required to have two years of Adult Acute Care work experience, preferably in an emergency or intensive care setting. Additionally, prospective students must provide verification of ACLS certification and official transcripts. College transcripts should show the completion of BSN-level Health Assessment and Statistics courses and reflect an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. Additionally, candidates must provide a resume or CV, a Personal Statement, and three references.

Advanced Practice Certificate Program Details: Advanced practice registered nurses can obtain education and certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner through the Advanced Practice Certificate program at Oklahoma City University. The program admits new students in the spring of each academic year.


Advanced Practice Certificate Admission Requirements: Eligible candidates for the Advanced Practice Certificate program must have a Master’s degree in nursing from an ACNE- or CCNE-accredited nursing program, a current unrestricted RN license in Oklahoma or a NLC State with APRN recognition in Oklahoma. Applicants must complete a university admission application and provide a Personal Essay describing how the Post-Master’s NP Certificate will help achieve life and career goals. A current curriculum vitae or resume, two letters of recommendation, and transcripts from every post-secondary school attended must be submitted. A graduate GPA of 3.25 or higher and completion of graduate-level courses in Advanced Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Advanced Assessment is also required.
