MSN Program Details: If you are a Registered Nurse interested in pursuing a career in women’s health, earning a Master of Science in Nursing and becoming a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner is one option to consider. The University of Colorado-Anschutz offers a few options for nurses seeking a WHNP program in Colorado that I believe are worth considering. For instance, the MSN program is designed for baccalaureate-prepared RNs. The program admits new students each fall and can be completed in as few as seven semesters.
With most classes delivered online, the MSN program is a great option for nurses who need to continue working or have other obligations. The program requires the completion of 50 credits, including 36 didactic credits and 14 clinical credits. The study plan features classes such as Gynecologic Care, Care of Childbearing Families, Primary Care of Women, and Reproductive Physiology. Students complete 630 clinical hours across three clinical courses.
MSN Admission Requirements: Prospective students seeking admission to the MSN program at the University of Colorado-Anschutz must have a baccalaureate degree in nursing earned from an accredited nursing program and hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse. In addition to completing an application via NursingCAS, you are required to submit a curriculum vitae or resume, three letters of reference, an admission essay, and copies of all college/university transcripts. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required, as well as proof of completion of an undergraduate research and an undergraduate statistics course, each with a minimum grade of “C.” You may be asked to attend Interview Day to proceed with your admission.
BSN-to-DNP Program Details: The BSN-to-DNP is an excellent option for baccalaureate-prepared RNs who wish to earn a clinical doctorate and specialize in women’s healthcare. The program combines the WHNP master’s specialty preparation with doctoral education in one integrated program. You will earn a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and then pursue the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, training to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
The BSN-to-DNP program admits students each fall and takes an average of four years to complete. Didactic coursework is mostly online. However, limited on-campus visits are required to complete simulated learning experiences and other campus-based activities. The program features a 76-credit curriculum that includes 1,170 clinical hours. The clinical component of the program comprises 630 direct patient care hours devoted to women’s health and 540 indirect clinical hours, achieved through completion of the DNP Scholarly Project.
BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be considered eligible for admission to the BSN-to-DNP program at the University of Colorado-Anschutz, you need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree earned from an accredited nursing program and a current, unencumbered RN license. Applications are processed through NursingCAS. All candidates are expected to submit an admission essay, three letters of recommendation, and transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. A minimum undergraduate nursing GPA of 3.0 is required, as well as completion of undergraduate Nursing Research and Statistics courses with a grade of “C” or better. Some candidates must participate in an interview before receiving an official admission offer.
Post-Graduate Certificate Program Details: If you have already completed a graduate degree in nursing and want to explore a new area of practice by becoming a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, the Post-Graduate Certificate program at the University of Colorado-Anschutz can help you reach your goals. The program offers two start dates each year, in the spring and the fall. Most students complete the Post-Graduate Certificate program in 18 months.
This WHNP program in Colorado features a 27-credit curriculum plan and requires a total of 630 clinical hours. However, a GAP analysis is conducted for each student upon admission to determine if an individual plan of study is needed to meet national certification requirements. If additional courses are needed, your advisor will develop a plan of study customized to your needs.
Post-Graduate Certificate Admission Requirements: Candidates seeking admission to the Post-Graduate Certificate program must have a Master of Science in Nursing degree earned from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program and a current, unencumbered RN license. Along with a completed application via NursingCAS, you need to submit three letters of recommendation (one academic reference is preferred), a resume or curriculum vitae, an admission essay, and transcripts from all post-secondary schools you attended. A minimum college GPA of 3.0 is required. Additionally, you may be required to participate in an admission interview with program faculty.
