BSN-to-DNP Program Details: Are you a registered nurse who loves caring for children? Have you considered advancing your career to expand your scope of practice in pediatric care? If so, becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is one way to do that. Finding the right program is crucial if you want to earn a degree and specialize in pediatric care. For example, the University of Virginia offers an excellent pediatric nurse practitioner program in Virginia.
The post-baccalaureate Doctor of Nursing Practice program is designed with busy working nurses in mind. You can choose to enroll part-time or full-time based on your goals and needs. The program features a hybrid format, requiring in-person attendance on campus an average of once per month, with the remainder of didactic instruction completed online.
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care pathway features a 74-credit curriculum and requires the completion of 1,064 practicum hours. The Prima

BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements:BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be eligible for admission to the BSN-to-DNP program, applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an ACEN-, CCNE, or NLN-accredited nursing school and have an active, unencumbered nursing license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Candidates are required to submit a completed application and application fee, as well as official transcripts for all post-secondary schools and a resume or curriculum vitae. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate coursework is required. Some applicants are asked to interview with program faculty.
Post-Master’s Certificate Program Details: The Post-Master’s Certificate program at the University of Virginia is designed for advanced practice registered nurses seeking post-professional certification as a Pediatric Primary Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. The program admits students in the summer semester and takes an average of three semesters to complete.
The curriculum for the program is offered in an executive hybrid format, combining online classes with campus visits, an average of once each month, to complete hands-on learning activities. The Acute Care PNP certificate program is a 21-credit pathway that includes 616 clinical hours. Students in the Primary Care PNP certificate program complete at least 19 credits and 560 clinical hours. However, the Program Director will conduct a GAP analysis at matriculation to ensure completion of APRN core courses. If you lack those courses, they will be added to your plan of study.
Post-Master’s Certificate Admission Requirements: Candidates seeking admission to the Post-Master’s Certificate program must have a graduate degree in nursing from a nursing school with national accreditation from the ACEN or CCNE, and possess an active state license and certification to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae or professional resume, a completed application, official college transcripts, and be available for an admission interview, if requested.

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program is a hybrid program that includes both online learning and face-to-face experiences. Didactic instruction is offered using Canvas, and faculty use various technologies to facilitate both synchronous and asynchronous course delivery. Occasional campus visits, usually once per semester, are required to complete standardized patient and simulation experiences. The 47-credit curriculum features classes, including Management of Acute & Critical Pediatric Conditions, The Growth & Development of Children in the 21st Century, and Primary Care Approaches for Children.
Students in the MSN Pediatric NP program complete a minimum of 560 clinical hours. As a graduate nursing student, you are required to identify potential clinical sites and preceptors and collaborate with the Program Director and the School of Nursing Clinical Services Coordinator for approval. If providers are available and willing to serve as a preceptor in your home community, the Director will work with you to accommodate clinical training there to minimize travel.
MSN Admission Requirements: Admission to the MSN program at Old Dominion University requires a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited institution and a current, unencumbered RN license with one year of current experience in the role. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, a written statement addressing career goals and reasons for seeking certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts must show a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and the completion of an undergraduate Physical/Health Assessment course and an undergraduate Statistics course.
