MSN Program Details: Wayne State University offers additional options for prospective students seeking a pediatric nurse practitioner program in Michigan. The MSN program is designed for baccalaureate-prepared RNs. It is available with the option to specialize in either acute or primary pediatric care, and with the choice of enrolling on a part-time or full-time basis. Part-time students typically complete the program in three years, while full-time students complete it in two years. Admission occurs in the fall semester of each year.
Both the Acute Care and Primary Care PNP pathways require the completion of 47 credits. The curriculum plans feature core courses, advanced practice cognate courses, and clinical courses. Additionally, you will complete a minimum of 675 clinical hours, which are arranged by program faculty and the Clinical Coordinator. You must have at least one year of full-time experience in a pediatric setting before beginning any clinical course.
MSN Admission Requirements: To be eligible to apply for admission to the MSN program at Wayne State University, you must have completed a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program and a current Michigan RN license. The university utilizes NursingCAS to process applications and review supplemental materials. In addition to an online application, you are required to provide a resume or curriculum vitae that includes work and/or research experience, publications, education, certifications, professional affiliations, honors, awards, and presentations. Additionally, you must submit two professional letters of recommendation, a Personal Statement of Goals, and official transcripts reflecting a minimum 3.0 GPA for your BSN program.
BSN-to-DNP Program Details: If you have a BSN and are interested in earning a clinical doctorate, Wayne State University’s BSN-to-DNP program is an excellent option. The program admits new students each fall and can be completed in three years of full-time study, or in four years, if you enroll part-time.
The BSN-to-DNP program requires 76 credits, including DNP core courses, supportive courses, clinical courses, and DNP project practicum courses. Students in both the Acute Care and Primary Care pathways take classes such as Advanced Pediatric Pharmacology, Evidence-Based Nursing Practice: Theoretical & Methodological Issues, Advanced Physiology & Pathophysiology Across Lifespan, and Population Health in Nursing. A practicum experience complements each clinical course. All DNP students complete a minimum of 1,000 post-baccalaureate clinical hours.
BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: Registered nurses with a baccalaureate nursing degree and an active, unrestricted RN license are eligible to apply to the BSN-to-DNP program at WSU. You are required to complete an application via NursingCAS and provide documentation, including a current CV or resume, two letters of recommendation, a Statement of Goals, and all college and university transcripts. A grade point average of at least 3.0 is required. You must also show proof of at least one year of clinical experience working in a pediatric setting before progressing to clinical courses.
MSN-to-DNP Program Details: Master’s-prepared RNs also have an option to earn a clinical doctorate through the MSN-to-DNP program at Wayne State University. The program is available on a part-time or full-time basis and can be completed in three or four years.
The College of Nursing offers the Flex Learning Program, which allows you to choose either in-person classes on campus or synchronous online learning. The flex path allows you to attend class, take exams, collaborate on projects, and give presentations without the need to travel to campus.
This pediatric nurse practitioner program in Michigan requires the completion of at least 38 credits. After submitting official transcripts from your master’s degree program, an analysis of your previous courses and clinical hours will be used to determine a personalized study plan. You are required to have at least 1,000 post-bachelor’s clinical practicum hours. The actual number of clinical hours you must complete in this program will be determined after verification of your MSN clinical hours.
MSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the MSN-to-DNP program, you need a master’s degree in nursing from a program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE and copies of your current RN license and APRN certification (if applicable). You need to submit a professional resume or curriculum vitae, two letters of professional recommendation, a Statement of Personal Goals, and all post-secondary transcripts. Your transcripts must be requested through NursingCAS and should reflect a minimum college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Graduate Certificate Program Details: If you have previously earned a graduate degree in nursing and wish to gain the Primary Care or Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification, the Graduate Certificate program at WSU is an ideal option. While most students complete the program in as few as three semesters, you may take up to three years to earn the certificate. With flexible scheduling, you can achieve certification while still maintaining your regular job and personal obligations and responsibilities.
Each PNP Graduate Certificate pathway requires the completion of 24 credits, as no transfer of credit is accepted into the certificate program. The curriculum plans include specialty-specific didactic and clinical courses. A GAP analysis will be performed to determine if additional graduate-level cognate courses are required to meet certificate requirements. If needed, an individual plan of study will be developed for you. The Primary Care pathway requires a minimum of 500 clinical hours in pediatric primary care settings. If you pursue the Acute Care pathway, you must complete at least 675 clinical hours in pediatric acute care settings.
Graduate Certificate Admission Requirements: To be an eligible candidate for the Graduate Certificate program, you need a master’s degree or doctoral degree in nursing and a current Michigan RN license. You are required to submit a Personal Statement of Goals, a curriculum vitae or resume, transcripts from all post-secondary schools you have attended with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and two professional letters of recommendation. Recommendations should come from individuals such as previous faculty or unit managers.
