BSN-to-DNP Specialties Offered Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

BSN-to-DNP Program Details: Are you a registered nurse who wants to earn your Doctor of Nursing Practice and specialize as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner? Have you been looking for ACNP programs in Idaho but are not sure where to begin? If so, I recommend considering Boise State University! This year, the Boise State University School of Nursing celebrates its 70th year in nursing education and, when you become a student, you can become a part of the tradition.

The BSN-to-DNP ACNP program at Boise State University is designed to prepare you as a nurse practitioner who provides care for high-acuity patients from adolescents to older adults. Through this program, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills you need to work in various inpatient and outpatient acute care settings.

The program admits new classes each year in the fall and takes three years, or eight semesters, to complete. By following a cohort model, you will benefit from the diverse nursing backgrounds of your peers as you learn together. The blended learning format combines online learning with in-person summer intensives.

This Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner pathway features a 70-credit curriculum. After beginning your course of study with classes like Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice, Concepts of Population Health & Health Promotion in Health Systems, and Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics, you will progress to doctoral-level coursework and clinicals.

As you delve into subjects, including Diagnosis & Management of Health & Illness Across the Lifespan and Acute Care Procedures & Diagnostics, coursework will be complemented by clinical learning experiences. A minimum of 1,000 clinical hours is required to complete the DNP degree. You will earn clinical hours through both in-person, direct patient care clinical practicums as well as indirect clinical hours through the completion of a DNP Scholarly Project.

BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the BSN-to-DNP program at Boise State University, applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree earned from an accredited institution and an active, unrestricted RN license. Candidates are required to submit a Graduate College Application along with an fee. You must provide a Personal Statement, a resume or curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation from nursing faculty members, work supervisors, or professional healthcare colleagues who can speak to your potential for success in the program, and official transcripts from all post-secondary schools you have attended. A cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher is required for full admission. Applicants with a GPA less than 3.0 may be considered for provisional admission. However, admission to the program is highly competitive. Furthermore, competitive candidates who meet all the required admission criteria will be invited to a video interview to determine if an offer of admission will be extended.
