Do you enjoy taking care of patients of all ages and want a career path that allows you to do so with a broader scope of practice than you have now? If so, earning a master’s degree and specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner could be the perfect way to achieve your goals.

The New England Institute of Technology offers an RN-to-MSN pathway designed specifically for registered nurses who hold an Associate Degree in Nursing and want to advance directly to a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization. The program, which is the only RN-to-MSN program in Rhode Island, combines bridge coursework with graduate-level FNP preparation without requiring you to complete a separate BSN.

The program is designed to be completed on an accelerated schedule, with students completing the program in 11 terms. The first three terms comprise bridge coursework, which is followed by eight terms of FNP graduate study. Most coursework is delivered online. However, at least one campus visit is required to complete clinical immersion experiences. In-person immersions typically occur on weekends.

The RN-to-MSN program features a curriculum requiring 107 quarter credits. Once bridge coursework is complete, you will transition to graduate-level coursework. Your study plan will include classes such as Primary Care of the Infant, Child, & Adolescent, Public Health for Advanced Clinical Practice, Women’s Health, Primary Care of the Adult, and Advanced Pathophysiology. The program incorporates 750 clinical and lab hours, ensuring you have a broad range of hands-on learning experiences.

Admission Requirements: Candidates for admission to this RN-to-MSN program in Rhode Island must possess an associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program and have an unencumbered RN license or be academically eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. Students who enter before passing the NCLEX may take up to two terms of coursework while preparing for the examination, but you must provide proof of an active, unencumbered RN license before beginning your third term.

You are required to submit an online application and provide proof of current immunizations and American Heart Association BLS certification. Additionally, you must provide a personal statement, professional résumé or CV, and official transcripts from each college or university you previously attended. A minimum college GPA of 3.0 is required. Admission to the RN-to-MSN program is offered in the Winter term annually.
