Some of the classes you will take include Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Diagnosis & Psychopharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics in Advanced Practice Registered Nursing, and Advanced Health Assessment & Diagnostic Reasoning.
Three clinical courses, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Theory I, II, and III, are each complemented by a clinical practicum. BSN-to-DNP Program Details: If you have a BSN and want to earn a terminal nursing degree and specialize as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, the post-bachelor’s DNP PMHNP program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is an excellent option. The program admits students in the fall semester and offers a three-year and a four-year plan of study.
The BSN-to-DNP program features a hybrid format and utilizes distance learning modalities. While some classes are offered on campus, those classes are also telecommunicated across the state and delivered via Blackboard for students enrolled in online courses. You will study Advanced Health Assessment & Diagnostic Reasoning, Quantitative Epidemiology, and Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. The curriculum also includes three clinical theory courses, each with a corresponding clinical practicum. Concentration-specific theory includes a focus on Child & Family Health, Management of Family Reproductive Health, and Adult & Family Health. The program includes 1,080 clinical hours.
BSN-to-DNP Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the BSN-to-DNP program, you must provide proof of having earned a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program and have a current, unencumbered Arkansas or compact state Registered Nurse license. Candidates are required to submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended, reflecting a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the most recent nursing degree program.
In addition to submitting transcripts, you are asked to provide proof of completion of a basic statistics course with a grade of “C” or better and an academic or ANCC-COA continuing education approved health assessment course. You must also submit a resume or curriculum vitae, a professional goals statement, a copy of your current CPR card, and proof of at least 2,000 clinical hours of work experience as a registered nurse.
Post-Graduate Certificate Program Details: The Post-Graduate Certificate program offers students with a master’s or doctorate in nursing the opportunity to add the Psychiatric-Mental Health NP specialty to their professional specialties. The program admits students in the fall each year and takes an average of 12 months to complete.
The program requires a minimum of 23 credits and 770 clinical hours. However, a GAP analysis will be completed to determine if any core or foundational courses are lacking. Any required courses that are lacking will be added to the post-graduate specialty courses in your plan of study.
Post-Graduate Certificate Admission Requirements: The Post-Graduate Certificate program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is available to advanced practice registered nurses who hold a master’s or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program and a current, unrestricted Arkansas RN license.
