Contributing Writer Bio: Pattie Trumble
Pattie Trumble, MPP, MPH
Pattie Trumble is a nurse who worked in both California and New York for many years as an emergency room nurse. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an Associate Degree in Nursing from the Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing. After 10 years of providing direct care, she went back to school and earned concurrent Master’s degrees in both public policy and public health from the University of California, Berkeley. Thereafter, she worked for various public health agencies in California at both the community and state levels providing economic and legislative analysis.
After she moved to New York State with her husband and children in 2009 to help care for an aging, infirm family member, she began working
per diem as an RN once again. She has since retired.
She believes strongly that the key to reforming the American healthcare system lies in empowering advanced practice registered nurses to practice to the full extent of their training so that they can make primary healthcare more accessible to the millions of Americans who are currently without it.
In her spare time, Pattie likes to garden, read, hike, and enjoy time with her friends and two adult sons. She has been a volunteer tax preparer through AARP’s TaxAide program for more than a decade. She also helps run the local food bank in the small upstate New York town where she lives.
Writing has always been one of Pattie’s passions. She has written for Salon,
The San Diego Reader, and Entertainment Weekly among other outlets.
