So, you have already decided that you want to advance your nursing career by going back to school to become a nurse practitioner, but you are unsure if you want to pursue the degree in a traditional or online manner. Let me ask you a question, what is holding you back from an online program. Is it the question, are online nurse practitioner programs respected in the field of nursing? Well, why would they not be? I want to explore with you the 8 reasons why online nurse practitioner programs are well respected. After reading this article, you will see that an online program can provide the same standards of education and learning experience as an in-person traditional program.
Following Are The 8 Reasons Why Online Nurse Practitioner Programs Are Well Respected
For you to complete your license requirements to become a nurse practitioner, you must graduate from an accredited master’s or doctoral degree program. One misconception that people may have is that online nurse practitioner programs are not prestigious enough to earn this accredited title. Well, they are truly mistaken. Many online nurse practitioner programs have met the standards of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
(CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing
(ACEN) to be called accredited. An accredited program is superior to those that are not, and therefore your degree will be well respected.

Another reason why online nurse practitioner programs
are well respected is that you will be held to the same standards regarding coursework
that you would in a traditional education program. I know some people think that online coursework is easier, but that is simply not the case. You will work hard in an online program and trust me all that hard work will pay off at the end of the day.
3) Admission requirements
An online nurse practitioner program holds the same rigorous standards as a traditional education program when it comes to admission requirements
into the program. Just because you choose to pursue a degree through an online program, it does not mean that you will not be held to having high standards. If you do not meet the requirements for admission to an online program, you will not be able to attend certain programs.
4. Prerequisite Courses
Regardless of the online program you choose to pursue, there will be prerequisite courses that must be successfully completed. An online NP program maintains these standards of ensuring your successful completion of certain prerequisite courses to ensure your success with graduate level coursework. Some of these courses such as anatomy & physiology, and microbiology are standard prerequisite courses that must be completed.
Faculty who teach in online nurse practitioner programs are usually seen as the backbone of the program. Faculty credentials are important, these are established through their academic preparation and their experiences. The faculty members that you will come across in your online NP programs tend to be certified in an area of expertise, making them experts in their field.
6. Student outcomes
Students who completed online nurse practitioner programs were found to be just as successful
as those who chose the traditional educational method. This essentially means that no difference was noted in the quality of education received among the two groups. This adds to the respect factor of online Nurse practitioner programs. Your quality is not suffering through an online program. The proof is in the pudding.
7. Same student services
I know there is a misconception that you will not receive the same resources that traditional students get if you attend an online NP program. Well, thanks to modern technology, the online students can get those resources. You can easily have one on one meetings with your professor; you can attend a writing center workshop and even study groups through your computer. Online programs have really stepped up their game.
8. The longevity of the program
Online NP programs have been around for quite some time. Well respected and well-rated programs will withstand the test of time. That means that these programs provide such a high caliber of education for their students that they will remain when other programs have failed.
So, I hope I have helped you answer the question of, are online nurse practitioner programs well respected? There is a lot of things that go into picking a program for your educational needs. Now that you see that an online nurse practitioner program
can have rigor and grit, you can feel good about your future after completing one of these programs.
