5 Things that will Make Your Dental Assistant Schooling Easier
Going back to school may seem like a daunting process, but there are things you can do to make it simpler.
1. Choose the right dental assistant school in CA. Different schools in California offer different types of programs, so be sure to choose the one that works best for your schedule and needs.
2. Take online courses where possible. Rather than attending your lectures on campus, think about joining a program that offers some or even all your coursework online.
3. Set aside time to study each day. This might be in the morning before you head off to work or in the evening while you’re winding down from the day.
4. Plan ahead. Learn more about California’s state laws as they apply to dental assisting requirements, and if possible, start scouting for jobs before you finish your program.
5. Take care of yourself. Going to school to become a dental assistant may feel challenging and stressful at times, but there are things you can do to make it easier. It is important that you take care of yourself by eating balanced meals, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep. This will go a long way toward helping you complete your program successfully.
Dental Assistant Program Length & Cost in California
It will take you anywhere from six months to two years to complete a dental assistant program in CA, and this depends on the type of program you choose. Metro Wise Employment & Salary Data
California is an extremely geographically and demographically diverse state. Some areas offer rolling hills or mountains and a sparse population, but others are sprawling cities with populations in the millions. As a dental assistant, you can increase your salary by working in one of the state’s numerous densely-populated metro areas. Some of the highest paying areas include San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward ($62,830), San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara ($61,130), Santa Rosa ($56,750), Santa Maria-Santa Barbara ($54,850) and Napa ($53,280).
The reasons for the significant differences in salary from one metro to the next can be attributed to the affluence of the local area. Santa Rosa residents are mostly upper-middle-class and upper-class, which means they are willing and able to pay more for dental services provided by reputable dentists. Along those same lines, the Los Angeles-Anaheim-Long Beach metro area average salary is only $44,020 despite being the most densely-populated metro in the state. This is because many of the residents there are lower-class and receive state-funded or subsidized dental care.
